Meet Alex
Alex started her first music lessons when she was 5 years old. She hated it. But she really really really really reallly reallllllllly loved music. It was this love-hate relationship that would put her exactly where she is today, working with kids to love what they do and figure out how to teach themselves what they love...the same way she did.
Her Music Education includes a B.A. in Music from the University of Texas where she focused in Songwriting, Opera, Music Production, and Arts Administration. She's four classes away from two Masters's degrees in Library Science and Children's Literature where she studies how to bring educational programming into the world of literature.
She's performed in local and international opera tours, is an award-winning composer and songwriter, and best of all she has a box full of cards from former students that tell her how awesome she is as their teacher. From voice to recording technology, she's taught at various institutions to adults and children alike such as the Houston Grand Opera, Texas Performing Arts, The Hideout Theater, Merlin Works Theater, and the Institution Theater. Some of her favorite jobs have been playing improv piano for full-length musicals and helping kids turn their stories into professional plays.
Currently, she just finished her second year of teaching music and choir to pre-K through 8th grade including work with Godspell the Musical, Matilda the Musical, Rock band, and STEM-based programming to provide an entry point to the numerous avenues that music is a part of our lives. She also writes songs for all her friends who are getting married and is working on the music for her third commissioned musical.
